The MT-28 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) team is promoting the next generation of talents with an active student programme during the conference that stresses diversity and inclusiveness. To make this conference a moment to remember for all participating students we are organizing in-conference technical activities, opportunities to meet with potential employers, and ex-conference get-togethers. Student programme Description
Funding scheme for student conference participation
The MT-28 LOC and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will facilitate access to this unique international conference for exceptional students from around the world for whom the travel and student registration expenses are an obstacle. A set of grants (approximately 20 in total) will be awarded to facilitate the participation of these students.
How to apply: An email should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with attached publication abstract and a request for complementary funding. The email should include the following information: country, institution, PhD year and topic, and a brief introduction and statement about how you expect to benefit from the MT-28 conference. Apply by 11 July 2023; the answers will be sent before 25 July 2023 (early registration).
Grant types: Free student registration, participation fee for 3 short courses and Travel stipend.
Short Courses & Workshops
Short courses consist of quality introductory talks by renowned professors and scientists from the Magnet community offering insight into specific topics relating to magnet design, manufacture or operation, permitting to grasp the challenges and issues of these systems while being able to interact easily with the expert delivering the course. Courses will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings (in Studio 1 – 8 :15 AM to 9 :15 AM).
How to participate: Add this option during your registration (100 Euros for 3 courses, the fee includes a lunchbox per each course day).
Students Best Paper Awards
These Awards will recognize outstanding student submissions to the conference, and provide the winners with an opportunity for important exposure of their work and projects. The LOC will appoint a Best Paper Committee (~5-10 people), with the responsibility for shortlisting the candidates and judging the final winners. The awards will be presented at the beginning of the Student Special Session by a LOC representative or industrial sponsor. Apart from presenting your paper during a regular conference session, if selected by the Best Paper Committee you will be expected to make a very brief presentation during the Student Special Session.
How to participate: If you are a student and first author of your manuscript and wish to be considered for this award, email a copy of your draft manuscript to email@example.com before 15 August 2023.
Students Special Session
A special oral session will permit the Best Paper awardees to share their work in a five minutes short oral presentation, and explain the progress that has been made in their specific fields of expertise. This is a unique opportunity to experience the full attention of your peers and to share the stage with other incredibly interesting early career scientists!
How to participate: The presenters will be the awardees of the Student Best Paper competition. They will be notified of their participation to this special session at the latest on 04 September 2023.
We will be offering companies and institutes the opportunity to present their recruitment and career opportunities in a special session, with meeting rooms available for personal discussions.
These student events will be organized outside of the conference’s main venue to facilitate interaction, fun, and the discovery of the host city.
- Fun Run / Walk !
The MT28 Fun Run/Walk will take you around a 4K loop, through Aix-En-Provence, France. A nice way to discover this great city as well as to relax from the hectic pace of the conference.
- Social Evening in Aix !
On Wednesday evening, join us in Aix’s best pub street! A stop at two local bars will be organized to give everyone time to exchange over a beer or a glass of wine.

A dinner will be organized in one of the local restaurants to permit relaxed conversation outside of the conference.

How to participate: Fun Run/Walk registration can be done on-site or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets for the Social Evening and the Shared Dinner can be bought during registration (10 euros per event), or on site, but be quick! The number of participants for each event is limited to 25 people maximum.
